In the excess of images we live in, their dynamics are often determined by their popularity. What does it matter what it shows or what it looks like? So many people have already seen it. And what does it show after all? How many artists would like their images to be so visited, but this condition is an inversion of visual logic: for visual artists, what matters is what it is and what it shows and above all how it shows it. It is still a battle of the time, to fit popular culture into the artistic condition.
In the “153K Views” exhibition, each artist’s works interpret a category of popular depictions through their visual obsessions: from narcissism to dream pop, from exotic reality to the short word symbol, from reality to otherworldly identity, from childhood to coming of age, from everyday life to art.
